Brentford recruitment guru leaves. West Ham fans want him...
https://www.hammers.news/transfer-news/west-ham-fans-call-on-owners-to-hire-brentford-recruitment-guru-after-he-announces-shock-departure/

Many West Ham United fans are calling on the club’s owners to follow up the impending signing of Brentford’s Said Benrahma by hiring the man who spotted his talent in the first place.

According to the likes of The Evening Standard and The Daily Mail Benrahma will have a medical at West Ham today.

It comes after a deal worth up to £30million was struck between West Ham and Brentford and personal terms were agreed.

But now many supporters are calling on David Sullivan and David Gold to sign Brentford’s real star – recruitment consultant Nick Gearing.

That’s after the hugely successful talent spotter announced his shock departure from the Bees on Thursday morning.

Gearing has been key to a setup at Brentford which has identified and signed seven players for just under £11million and sold them on for a staggering total of £130million.

How West Ham could do with someone like that heading up their recruitment.

And Gearing is actively looking for a new opportunity too.

“I’m leaving my role as Recruitment Consultant at Brentford FC after what has been an incredibly successful time there,” Gearing said on Twitter accompanied by a longer statement suggesting the Bees have been forced to make cutbacks due to the global health crisis.

“Any clubs looking for a scout or someone to set up a scouting/video network or organisation – I would be interested.”

West Ham fans have responded in great numbers urging Sullivan and Gold to move swiftly to hire Gearing.

And it is easy to see why.

West Ham’s scattergun, often incoherent, recruitment in recent years has left a lot to be desired.

It is a major bone of contention between the fans and owners.

But one look at what Gearing has been involved in across London is jaw-dropping.

Ollie Watkins was signed for £1.8million and sold to Aston Villa for £33million.

Neal Maupay was also snapped up from France for £1.8m and sold to Brighton for £20m.

Andre Gray cost just £500k and was sold for £12m to Burnley.

Scott Hogan – a former Hammers target – was signed for £700k and sold to Villa for £12m.

Chris Mepham was picked up on a free from Chelsea’s youth team and sold to Bournemouth for £11m.

Esri Konsa cost £2.5m and was sold for £12m.

Benrahma’s impending move to West Ham will be worth up to £30m. He was signed for just £3.5m.

And Brentford’s left-back Rico Henry – another target for Prem clubs – is widely expected to be sold an eight-figure sum having arrived for £1.5m from Walsall.

It is safe to say Sullivan and Gold should not delay.

With that kind of CV Gearing surely won’t be out of work for long.

Would be interesting and just what we need on the face of it. Surprised they'd let him go if he's such a money maker for them though. Maybe there's a bit more to it than what's being said?

Also Miike is right. Sullivan can't help himself. The first signing Gearing makes- if he were to come to the club- that DIDN'T work out, Sullivan would be all over it giving the 'I trusted him and look where we are. I need to run things more closely now. While of course taking the credit for anything that DID work out. 'Player X was the one he didn't want and i had to convince him about.'

I know Sullivan won’t go for it but just thought it was an interesting thought. Maybe the new owners will go for him.

This would make alot of sense and be a great move for us in massively improving our recruitment

Therefore it 100% wont happen

I agree it's definitely what we need though. I think we know we'll not get a DoF while Sullivan is there playing at doing the job himself but a good talent spotter would be a real blessing. Imagine signing young, good, cheap, upwardly mobile players?!

peter, I think it's a great idea if they'd just take a back seat. obviously stay within budget but allow him to target talent from the lower leagues, it would be a nice change

The only way we're likely to get this guy, is if SALTHOUSE is his agent.

This would require FORWARD THINKING and having a VISION and LONG TERM PLAN.

We don't do those things.

Since 2015 Brentford spent £10.8m on several players which they have since sold for £130m. If you include Benny to us.

Mental numbers. They guy is obviously very good at his job. Hence the reason why Sully will steer well clear of him as he would obviously tell Sully to leave him alone and let him do his job. Which Sully can't do.

What's the point of hiring someone like this to slot into the complete mess that has been our recruitment over recent years? Reflecting the fact that there isn't now a West Ham way, and that THE West Ham way was lost ages ago.

If we don't get some coherence into what we stand for as a club in football terms, either this bloke will get pissed off with working for us PDQ, or, more likely, won't come in the first place.

Re: Brentford recruitment guru leaves. West Ham fans want him...
This might actually be something Sully could get on board with as it would still be him doing the negotiations and choosing who to buy based on Gearing's recommendations, unlike if we got another DoF in.

The downside would be we'd only likely get this chap if GSB have no intentions of selling up soon.

Thats also the problem Nagal. Dildo Dave can make or break a deal with his "negotiations" offering two and six a week installments so he still retains control.

Sullivan is a classic narcissist and in his case the flip side of his "Little Man Syndrome" and/or being bullied as a lad. Good things will happen in spite of him not because of him. Its all about Dave and everyone appreciating Dave. Everything else is secondary.

This would make perfect sense but David Rappaport won't allow it due to his insecure threatened ego and his silent partner Peter Cushing is content to lurk in the broom cupboard counting his doubloons...

His track record at Brentford is very impressive. Whether it’s him or not, I really want us to get back something like the scouting network we used to have. If you pay into scouting a million, it can save you 10 million. Pay in 10 million and save 100 million. Trouble is, Sullivan hates putting in money into something not guaranteed to give you a return. I’m sure he curses under his breath every time he signs a cheque, even if it’s for something he’s knocked down to a bargain price.

I assume everyone knows he only joined Brentford at the end of January. There less than 9 months. Every signing mentioned joined Brentford before he arrived.

Moot point because Sully is in charge (and us fans were wrong when we asked him for a DoF, remember?), but I'm not convinced he's going to be the brains behind it - why would Brentford CHOOSE to get rid of him if he is?
